Embark on a journey through the picturesque landscapes of Tuscany, where every step unveils a piece of history and a taste of tradition.
Our adventure begins with a leisurely stroll through the vineyards and olive groves of Simignano, where the golden Tuscan sun kisses the rolling hills. As we meander through the lush greenery, we are immersed in the tranquil beauty of the countryside. Our path leads us to the charming chapel and the renowned Bezzini estate, home to the prized Sienese pigs (Cinta) raised in semi-wild conditions. Here, amidst carefully selected feeds and locally grown cereals, these majestic animals thrive, embodying the essence of Tuscan agriculture.
Next, we journey along the ancient Via Francigena, tracing the footsteps of pilgrims and merchants, until we reach the majestic Castello di Celsa. Perched atop a hill, this historic fortress offers breathtaking views stretching from Siena to Monte Amiata. Despite its tumultuous past, including devastation by imperial troops in the sixteenth century, the castle stands proudly, a testament to resilience and fortitude. In 1612, it found new life under the stewardship of the noble De Vecchi family from Siena.
Our journey through time reaches its pinnacle at the private Montarrenti Castle, a commanding presence atop the Senese mountains. With origins dating back to the seventh and eighth centuries, this fortress bears witness to centuries of history and heritage. Surrounded by the natural beauty of the Montagnola, guests can enjoy a meal of locally sourced organic delights. Whether opting for a leisurely stroll or admiring the serene views from the castle’s heights, the Montagnola will offer you an enchanting charm.
Our tour continues with a visit to the private cloister of the Torri Abbey, owned by the esteemed Piccolomini family of Siena. Steeped in serenity and spirituality, this hidden gem invites contemplation amidst its ancient walls and graceful arches.
We then venture to the Pieve of Ponte allo Spino, a marvel of Romanesque architecture dating back to 1050. Renowned as one of the most captivating monuments in the Sienese countryside, this church whispers tales of a distant past.
Our enriching tour culminates with the opening of the Steve Schapiro exhibition, showcased at the “Ex Tinaia” in the heart of Sovicille’s village center. This captivating exhibition promises to serve as a fitting finale to our exploration, offering insight into the artist’s most significant works that celebrate his life, legacy, and remarkable career as a photojournalist.
Join this customized tour and explore the timeless beauty and rich heritage of Tuscany, where every moment is a celebration of the past and a promise of adventures yet to come.
